Come Back Soon!

I have been a reading maniac lately, staying up way past my bedtime and not getting any chores done.  I figure the laundry will wait patiently for me.  I read base ten, by Maryann Lesert (who gave a wonderful reading last Thursday) and really enjoyed the tension AND the science.  I also read Wicked Plants, by Amy Stewart; such fun to read about how plants that I see every day are terribly dangerous!  I’ve also read a couple of books that haven’t been published yet, so I’ll keep those on the down-low for now!

Here’s Stamp, the elusive bookstore cat, helping to unpack a shipment of fresh, new books.

We’ll be closed next week for a computer/inventory conversion and some general sprucing up, but I hope you’ll come by and visit us again, starting Tuesday, July 7.  All of us here also hope that, though LitLife will be closed this-coming week, you’ll choose to shop at your other favorite, local independently-owned, stores during ”Celebrate Independents Week!”
Have a great 233rd Independence Day!

Zachary’s Letter From England

As many of you know, Zachary is traveling through Europe until August.  We all miss his energy, smile, and passion for literature already!  The poetry section really misses him.

I thought I’d share his note to us:

Everything is absolutely wonderful here in Kielder, Northumberland (northern most county in the UK). It’s a beautiful countryside, landscape and scenery delightfully awesome! The air is crisp and clean (one can taste it- lichen has begun to grow on the inner walls of my lungs!) Also plenty of forestry to wander about in. It’s quite a small village ~170 or so people living in and around Kielder; extremely peaceful and relaxing here.

Weather is a touch chilly at times when the sun is tucked away behind clouds; it was gorgeous the day I arrived and the following day, this week has been a bit ‘unsettled’- the weather not sure what it wants to do- light rain on and off, partly/mostly cloudy. All the while I’ve been enjoying myself.

I am doing very well, pleased with my visit and stay here. Hosts are very accommodating. Work hasn’t been too strenuous: help serve breakfast at the B&B and clean rooms; one afternoon I worked in the garden, weeding and labouring to make a flowerbed.  Scotland is only three miles away, a couple days ago I borrowed a bike and cycled across the border. Sheep roam across the road at their will.

I will be leaving Kielder on Thursday 12 june and traveling to York where I have a place to sleep for a few days then onward from there making my way eventually to Harwich to ferry across to Hoek van Holland.

How’s LitLife? I’m spreading the word around here. Hopefully each of you
is taking care.

Keep well, with Peace
Zachary
