Introducing First Saturday for Kids at LitLife!
September 6, 2008, 11a - 12noon

LitLife is pleased to introduce its First Saturday for Kids program. We will be hosting special events for kids on the first Saturday of each month at 11:00am. Each event will last about an hour. We’ll have story-time, or a party, or even an author signing books! Keep an eye on our website or come in to the store to find out about future events.
For our next First Saturday event on September 6th, please join us at 11:00 a.m. for an author signing! We are so happy to host local author Susan Collins Thoms, who will read from her book Cesar Takes A Break (and she’ll sign your purchased copy). We love Thoms’ book, and suspect you will, too. Here’s what Booklist had to say about Cesar Takes A Break: “For children wondering what goes on at school during the breaks, a class pet with a big personality offers an eye-opening report. With everyone gone for spring vacation, school seems a dark, lonely place to Cesar the iguana—until he wanders into the lunchroom and meets Sassy, a guinea pig that makes her home with a different class. As it turns out, there’s a full round of recreational activities on tap for the school’s left behind menagerie, from a basketball tournament to a visit to the library. In simple, thickly brushed cartoons, Rogé depicts a smiling animal cast basking under the french-fry heat lamps, sacking out in the Lost and Found, reading books about one another, and, in general, having a great time. Come Sunday, Cesar has a decision to make: Should he stay free, or go back to his classroom? He opts for the latter, and the vacation stories of the children who return on Monday leave him making more wide-ranging summer plans. This lighthearted narrative closes with a page of iguana facts.”
Writers’ Group at LitLife
3rd Tuesday of the Month (starting in September)

We are so excited to introduce the Writers’ Group at LitLife! The group will meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00p, starting September 16, 2008. Everyone is welcome to participate. Just bring copies of your work to share (we recommend about 5-6 pages) and writing materials for taking notes. Writers’ groups offer an opportunity to discuss, improve, and admire aspects of your work. They are also a great place to meet new friends who are interested in the same subject areas as yourself.
Our bookstore is small, so we are limiting the group to a maximum of six people. If we have a large response, we’ll plan to divide the group into sessions dedicated to certain genres (for example, a group interested in children’s literature might meet separately from those interested in short stories or longer fiction). Please contact us at , or by phone at 616.458.8418, if you’d like to reserve a place in the group. We look forward to seeing you in September!
