LAST CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!

We’re well into our submission process for the 2nd Annual Poetry Contest here at LitLife, and we’ve seen some great poetry so far. But, there is less than a week left before we reach the deadline for submissions, so mail in (or drop off) your poems now! You may submit up to two (per poet) original, unpublished poems in any style or length. Entries must be typed, and sent to the bookstore along with a cover letter including your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address. Each entry should be mailed, along with a $5.00 entry fee, to the following address:

Entries must be postmarked by March 15th. The contest will be judged by Heather Sellers, a professor of English at Hope College. Sellers won an NEA grant for fiction and was part of the Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers program. Her books include a short story collection (Georgia Under Water), three volumes of poetry, and three books on the craft of writing.
Winners in three award categories (Adult, Young Adult, and Children’s) will be announced at a champagne celebration at LitLife on Friday, April 30, at 7pm. The winning entries, along with select poems of interest, will be published in Volume 2 of the LitLife Chapbook Poetry Anthology. Look forward to notification of other events during the 2010 National Poetry Month, as well!

NATIONAL POETRY MONTH
April 1 - April 30, 2010
We are completely excited about moving toward April this year. Yes, the warmer weather and the blossoms of Spring are part of the reason, but even more enticing is the fact that April is NATIONAL POETRY MONTH. Here at LitLife, we’ll be celebrating the month with a host of events. Mark your calendar, and watch for further updates!
THURSDAY, APRIL 1, 7PM
Poetry reading with Lori Mays (author of STAINS) and Linda Leedy Schneider (author of THROUGH THE LATTICE). Both Lori and Linda are well-known in the world of poetry. Lori is an editor at Marick Press, and an instrumental part of The Ambassador Poetry Project; STAINS is her debut book of poetry. Linda Leedy Schneider is an award-winning, internationally-published poet and writer, a poetry and writing mentor, a clinical social worker in private practice, and an instructor at Kendall College of Art and Design. She has published extensively in poetry journals, and is the author of five collections of poetry.

Earth Day!
Poetry reading with Patricia Clark (poet-in-residence at GVSU) and select GVSU students. Patricia is a professor in the Writing Department (and also the poet-in-residence) at Grand Valley State University. She has published poems in many journals, and is the author, most recently, of a book of poetry entitled SHE WALKS INTO THE SEA.
FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 7PM
Poetry Contest Celebration with announcement of winners of the 2nd Annual Literary Life Bookstore Poetry Contest and launch of Volume 2 of the Literary Life Bookstore Poetry Anthology. Hear the winners of the poetry contest read their entries, purchase the second volume of our anthology, sip champagne, and mingle with other like-minded poets.
